Jai Singh is a Managing Director active in Compass Advisers' cross-border mergers & acquisitions and overall advisory effort for India, with additional responsibility for select global clients in the consumer products/retail, diversified industrial, auto, aerospace, engineering and resources sectors.  He joined Compass Advisers in April 2006.

      Mr. Singh has over 17 years of international investment banking experience, including thirteen years at Citigroup/SSSB/Salomon Smith Barney in both London and New York, providing global strategic advice across multiple sectors within the M&A and Corporate Finance Group, Consumer & Retail Group, and Energy & Utility Group (London).  Additionally, Mr. Singh simultaneously held positions as a Director of global communications firm Incepta plc, and was a Senior Adviser at London-based corporate finance boutique Nash Fitzwilliams (NF Limited).

      Mr. Singh advises large and mid-sized corporates and conglomerates, family-owned companies and their boards on a wide number of strategic/industry-specific structural, tactical and execution issues on significant M&A and capital raising transactions across all sectors.

      Mr. Singh's transaction experience includes advising Fabindia on the acquisition of UK-based High Street retailer EAST Limited; providing specific tactical advice to Indian conglomerate Mahindra & Mahindra on the acquisition of Italian gear-maker Metalcastello SpA; Gannett/Newscom, Delhaize Group/Delhaize America, Perfetti/VanMelle NV, Huhtamäki/VanLeer NV, Imatran Voima Oy/Neste Oy, Callahan Associates LBO of KabelBW, Efes Beverage Group's merger and listing in Turkey, Liz Claiborne/MexxGroup BV, and Kmart on its equity carve-out strategy.  He also advised Sibneft, Elf Aquitaine and Total, as well as ABB on its refinancing and overall restructuring strategy (including the initial divestiture of ABB Lummus Global, Vetco Gray and building systems).  In addition, Mr. Singh has advised a number of private equity firms including KKR, Blackstone, TPG Asia, Lion Capital and Gilde on a number of potential buy-side and public-to-private transactions.

      From a capital markets standpoint, Mr. Singh worked on equity offerings in the U.S. and Europe for Efes Breweries International, Sports Authority, Borders, Office Max, Herbalife and Carter Hawley Hale, and has executed convertible bond, high yield and investment grade debt offerings for clients including CompUSA, Delhaize Group and ABB.

      Mr. Singh holds dual degrees in finance from The Wharton School of Business and in economics from the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania.  He completed his high school education in India (LaMartiniere High School) with academic, sports and all-round honors and, additionally, represented the state/region in the national junior cricket championships.

      Mr. Singh is a member of British American Business and the Asia Society in London.  He is fluent in English, Hindi and has basic knowledge of Italian.
