Scott Marden joined Compass Advisers in March 2010 as a Partner to launch Compass Partners Asset Management, our principal investing arm focused on alternative investments. Mr. Marden is responsible for the firm's global asset management activities including the Compass Investment Partners private equity fund, which targets transactions with middle-market business and information services companies based in North America. He rejoined Compass from Credit Suisse, where he was Partner and Chairman of Information and Media Partners at DLJ Merchant Banking Partners, the private equity arm of Credit Suisse.
Mr. Marden joined Credit Suisse from The McGraw-Hill Companies, where he was President of the Information and Media segment and a member of McGraw-Hill's management committee. He was responsible for managing all operations within this segment, which included JD Power and Associates, The Business Information Group, McGraw-Hill Construction, The Aviation Week Group, Platts, The BusinessWeek Group, and the McGraw-Hill Broadcasting Group.
Before joining McGraw-Hill, Mr. Marden was a Partner with our affiliate, Compass Partners International LLP, where he assisted in private equity transactions for its $917 million European Equity Fund. Mr. Marden's financial services experience also involved his directing the media, entertainment and information services investment banking practices at Bear Stearns & Co., Schroder & Co., and Bankers Trust Company. His executive experience includes serving as President of Marvel Entertainment Group, Inc., where he directed the company's publishing, licensing and international businesses and served as a member of Marvel's Board of Directors, and as CEO of Philips Media, a $1 billion division of Philips Electronics, where he held worldwide operating responsibility for Philips software, digital broadband and service businesses. He began his career at CBS, Inc., where he was President of CBS International Publishing and Broadcasting.
Mr. Marden has served on a number of corporate boards including Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Advanstar, Marvel Entertainment, General Magic, Whittle Communications, NavTech, and United Pan European Communications. He is a Trustee of the American Museum of the Moving Image, is on the President's Council of the Museum of Television & Radio, and is actively involved with the Central Park Conservancy as well as the East Hampton Library and its Winter Foreign Film Festival.
Mr. Marden holds a bachelor's degree from Fordham University and has completed doctoral coursework from the University of Chicago, where he also received a master's degree in international policy from the University of Chicago's Harris School.
