Bruce Kaufman has over 25 years of financial and restructuring expertise in the areas of corporate finance, asset sales, enterprise value, complex capital structures, restructuring securities and liabilities, representing high profile stakeholders, securing exit financing, business plan analysis, negotiation tactics, evaluation and risk analysis of pension plans, and expert witness reports.
Mr. Kaufman's expertise includes managing all aspects of a merger or sale process, reviewing and evaluating business plans and projections, and valuing business enterprises and debt and equity securities. He has worked on numerous restructuring engagements, including Trans World Airlines, ATA Holdings Corp., Adelphia Communications Corporation, Calpine Corporation, Delphi Corporation (PBGC), Aerovox, Fleming Companies, Kmart Corporation, Nortel Networks (PBGC), WorldCom Inc., Homemaker Industries, Indesco International, Philip Services, Polymer Group and Spinnaker Industries. In addition, he served as auditor for the Bell System Pension Plan and Bell System Management Pension Plan.
Mr. Kaufman joined Compass as a Principal in December 2002. Prior to joining Compass, Mr. Kaufman was an officer with the Investment Banking & Restructuring Group of Loeb Partners Corporation. He previously co-founded Rockwater International Group, Ltd., a manufacturer and distributor of supplies and equipment to the marine construction industry. Mr. Kaufman exited his interest in Rockwater at the end of 1997.
Mr. Kaufman was previously in the Investment Banking Division of Lehman Brothers, where he played a significant role in $3.7 billion of merger transactions and participated in raising more that $4.0 billion of new debt and equity capital. Before Lehman, Mr. Kaufman was with Rothschild Ventures Inc. and was a Senior Accountant with Coopers & Lybrand's Emerging Business Group.
Mr. Kaufman is a former Director of Winfield Capital Corporation, a publicly‑traded S.B.I.C., and of York Research, a privately‑held energy asset holding company.
Mr. Kaufman is a Certified Public Accountant. He received an M.B.A. from the Columbia Graduate School of Business and a B.S. degree in economics and accounting from the State University of New York at Albany, where he graduated magna cum laude.
